====== Virtaal ======

Virtaal is a graphical translation tool. It is meant to be easy to use and powerful at the same time. Although the initial focus is on software translation (localisation or l10n), we definitely intend it to be useful for several purposes.

Virtaal is built on the powerful API of the [[toolkit:index|Translate Toolkit]]. "Virtaal" is an Afrikaans play on words meaning "For Language", but also refers to translation.

===== Installation =====
[[http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=91920&package_id=270877|Download Virtaal]] if you don't yet have it. The Windows setup.exe installer contains all necessary dependencies. For other platforms, ensure that you have all the other dependencies, including the newest Translate Toolkit.

Debian/Ubuntu installation instructions for stable versions can be found [[http://translate.sourceforge.net/debian|here]]. Ubuntu-specific packages (stable and testing versions) can be found in the [[https://launchpad.net/~translate.org.za/+archive/ppa|Translate.org.za Tools PPA]].

There are many ways of contributing to Virtaal. Join the mailing list or IRC channel to join our effort. You can translate the user interface into your language. Do that by installing Virtaal and opening the [[http://translate.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/translate/src/trunk/virtaal/po/virtaal.pot|latest POT file]]. Attach it in a bug report, or send it to one of the developers.

You can join our effort to distribute Virtaal by sharing informing with people, writing documentation or packaging for more platforms.
